KC football to honor Texas flood victims with helmet stickers

The Kilgore College Rangers football team will join more than a dozen Texas college programs in honoring the victims of the devastating Hill Country floods by wearing a special helmet sticker during their upcoming game.

The sticker, an outline of the state of Texas filled with the state flag and wrapped in a green ribbon, pays tribute to the more than 130 lives lost during the July 4 floods, including 27 children from Camp Mystic.

KC will debut the memorial sticker this Saturday, Oct. 4, at its 3 p.m. home game against Community Christian College at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore.

KC Head Football Coach Willie Gooden said the team is proud to stand in solidarity with other Texas institutions, including Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, TCU, Houston, UTSA, North Texas and several others who have already added the stickers to their helmets.

"Our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragedy," said Courtney Pruitt, athletic director. "Wearing this sticker is a small way we can show support and let these families know they are not forgotten."
